In 1972, Friz Freleng and Ted Geisel (Dr. Suess) produced a 25 minute version of the Lorax, in which just like in the book, there's no Thneedville, Audrey, or O'Hare. There is a little boy like in the book, but his name isn't given.
This is just 1 of the several differences between the 2012 version and the 1972 animated adaptation, which was just like the book in almost every way.
So which version is superior? Don't be afraid to leave an opinion!

I've gotta say Depatie- Freleng is one of my least favorite animation houses. I remember watching some of the Looney Tunes they produced in the 1960s, back when Nickelodeon showed a wide array of them, and they just stuck out so badly when compared to shorts produced during the studio's heyday in the 50s. That said, it's still the Lorax so I do like it quite a bit enought to have it on my ipad but I definitely prefer the 2012 movie. The tv special has just enough of that 70s schoolhouse rock feel that was around some years before I was born and always seemed a bit dated to me when I'd see it on tv as a kid. But above all, I like the atmosphere and subtle characterization in the new movie.
